July 17th, 2019 Business Meeting - Mayor's Report

Posted on July 20, 2019 at 9:23 AM by Garry Herbert

On June 16th I attended the “Under the Lights” car show where a beautiful 1967 Ford Mustang fastback won the Mayor’s Choice. I would like to thank Fairmount Fire Company for their organization of the event. The car show adds a plethora of flavor to our community and brings everyone together for a wonderful cause that really celebrates our great fire company. I look forward to next year!

On July 5th I helped celebrate First Friday by taking my turn in the dunk tank. As always, first Friday was a blast and we managed to have a very successful event despite some early rain. If you missed your opportunity because of the weather I will be back in the tank for the St. Stan’s festival this year. The Chief will be challenging me to see who can raise more money at the event! So come on out and join us for the fun!

On July 6th I hosted my office hours at the Lansdale Farmer’s Market where we celebrated 11 years of the market. The Farmer’s Market continues to be a cornerstone of weekend activities in the borough and I would like to thank Carol Zellers and the whole team that puts it together every year.

On July 8th I visited the Lansdale Frogs at White’s Road Pool for their home meet against Hatfield (picture below!). It was amazing to see all the kids excited to swim and dive for their team. As the husband to a diver I am always encouraged to see people enjoying a great team sport! I look forward to attending more meets in the future!

On July 13th my day started with kicking off the BAPS walk where over 400 people gathered to support environmentalism and building a better community for all of us (picture below!). While not everyone is from Lansdale the event highlights the interconnected nature of our surrounding townships and communities. Working together and finding solutions to tough problems is the only way for all of us to succeed.

After the BAPS walk Representative Malagari and I went to a fundraiser for Will Albright who is fighting Osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer. I was humbled by his courage to face his cancer head on and by our communities ability to band together to support him. The depth of love in Lansdale is immense and I was extremely proud of our community for coming together to support this amazing young man.

I would like to congratulate Sargent North and Sargent Mallozzi on their promotions. They have worked extremely hard and are very deserving of their promotions. I look forward to continuing to see their leadership in our extremely professional police department.

Finally, I would like to offer my condolences to Former Lansdale Mayor Dick Bitner’s family for his recent passing. Dick helped organize and make our communities Bicentennial a success. His dedication, service, and love of Lansdale will never be forgotten.

As always, my office hours are Tuesday’s from 9 AM to 5 PM and Saturdays from 9 AM to Noon.
