September 18th, 2019 Business Meeting - Mayor's Report

On August 24th I joined most of Lansdale and the surrounding community to celebrate Founder’s Day. The event was expertly executed and I would like to thank Discover Lansdale for their hard work for putting together this event every year. Also, congratulations to the Koehler Family for their lifetime achievement award. Their business has been a cornerstone of our community for nearly 100 years and we appreciate their dedication to Lansdale.

On August 27th Congress Fitzpatrick, staff from the borough, staff from USPS, and myself held a joint meeting to discuss some of the challenges the borough has been facing over the last several months. More to come on this topic, but I believe we continue to be headed down a positive path toward improving mail delivery in Lansdale.

On September 7th I attended Bike Night with about 25,000 other people. At Bike Night President Burnell and I officially witnessed the beginning of a new Guinness World Record where two gentlemen began a journey around all 48 contiguous states on small moped scooters. They will be concluding their journey in November in Philadelphia. Lansdale will officially be listed as the starting location of that world record.

Also on September 7th I stopped by IEF Martial Arts here in the borough where I had the chance to meet Grand Master Benny Yang and learn a little about how Kung Fu teachings and how this extremely old art helps people focus their minds and keep their body fit. It is always great to gain a new perspective on an art form and I deeply appreciate the warm welcome IEF showed me while I was there.

On my Birthday, September 14th, I helped cut the ribbon at Cruise Night. I was honored to have so many classic vehicles come out and help me celebrate. But in all seriousness, thank you to Discover Lansdale for organizing Cruise Night and providing us another great reason to come together and celebrate our community.

Prior to Cruise Night I also visited the Egyptian Festival at St. Mary’s and St. Kryillos. This is the second year I attended this fantastic event. If you have never been, next year you should stop by the church and sample some of the great food, which is a mix of Greek and Lebanese, and visit their beautiful chapel. The chapel is adorned with a hand crafted wood mosaic made by their church members.

Finally, yesterday (September 17th), I attended the kick off of Constitution Week in Norristown with The Towamencin Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution, The County Commissioners, and several other dignitaries. Lansdale presented the DAR with a proclamation declaring this week Constitution Week here in Lansdale. In my speech I shared some thoughts on the lasting nature of our constitution and reflected on our march toward a more perfect union.

As always, my office hours are Tuesday’s 9-5 and Saturday 9- Noon.
